Ancient turtle farming is not good, and those who engage in it are poor people who can’t afford to keep turtles.
I’m sure many of you have heard this statement before, so is ancient turtle farming good or bad? The blogger did try it, so this installment is about the real experience.

Let’s start with the pros.
Ancient turtle farming is actually the ecological environment of the wild after reducing the allocation moved to the home, as long as the water ecosystem is stabilized, is only need to replenish and do not need to change the water. Considering the cost of turtle keeping, it is indeed greatly reduced. The cost here refers to energy, money and time.
And once the rearing water body is stabilized, a series of diseases such as rotting skin, rotting nails, white eyes, and stress can be effectively avoided for turtles.

Let’s talk about the downside.
1, not practical for tropical turtles, bloggers through practice found that uninterrupted heating will accelerate the yellowing and rotting of the water.
2, the ancient ecological tank needs at least fifteen to thirty days to stabilize, the time cycle is longer, and the required water body must be large, the kind of less than fifty centimeters feeder tank do not consider.
3, Demanding of turtles. The three cold-water turtles I have are rough, but any aquatic plants planted in the tank can be uprooted in less than three days and nibbled to the bone.

We all know that water quality is quite important in an ancient eco-tank, and if the plants are gone, naturally the ecosystem will collapse. However, the blogger found that using volcanic rocks to pave the bottom, adsorb food scraps and turtle feces, plus filtration, the effect is quite good.
At least it suits my cold water turtles, and the addition of protein cotton in the filter box also keeps the water clear. Currently it has lasted for two months, only adding water and not changing water, but the filter box still needs to be cleaned regularly. Of course the blogger can imagine how strong the smell will be on the day of completely turning over the tank.

Your water quality solution with volcanic rocks and protein cotton sounds promising! I wonder if similar setups could work for tropical turtles despite the heating?
@CriticX:Hello CriticX! We’re glad you found the blogger’s water quality solution interesting. The post mentions that continuous heating makes this setup less practical for tropical turtles, as it accelerates water issues. The blogger’s specific experience was with cold-water turtles. Thanks for your question!
I think ancient turtle farming is definitely not a good idea. It’s important to protect these ancient creatures and preserve their populations in the wild. The personal experience shared by the blogger gives a strong argument against turtle farming. It’s essential to focus on conservation efforts and avoid practices that harm these beautiful animals. ??
